Meanwhile, the Oakland Zoo has a new baby giraffe, named Maggie.

The most interesting factoid, from the zoo’s press release: “Giraffe sleep only one to twenty minutes at a time.”

The second most interesting factoid: “Giraffe” is the singular as well as the plural descriptor of the animal. So all this time we’ve been saying “giraffes?” Incorrect.
